Paediatrician Reviews and Brief Paediatric Admissions
Our experienced consultant paediatrician is on-hand to evaluate young people with physical complications related to their eating disorder (poor growth, thin bones, low heart rate etc.) We will also refer our patients if they have any pre-existing medical conditions that may complicate their recovery, such as diabetes or coeliac disease.
If a young person is physically very unwell, or in a dangerous state of starvation, we will arrange for them to be admitted to a general hospital’s paediatric ward. This would usually be across the road from our clinic, at King’s College Hospital, where our consultant paediatrician also works. Thanks to expert ward staff with plenty of experience caring for children with eating disorders, we generally find that our patients’ conditions stabilise in around 3.5 days.
