The Eating Disorders Clinic
The Eating Disorders Clinic is the oldest and largest part of MCCAED. From humble beginnings as a single clinical research team in the 1980s, we went on to pioneer the development of Maudsley Family Therapy: an internationally recognised first-line treatment method for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and related eating disorders in children and teens.
We continue to nurture a close and dynamic interface between excellent clinical care and research that pushes the boundaries of scientific knowledge. Throughout our history, we have continuously used our research findings to innovate, evaluate and expand our treatment catalogue. Our internally-developed therapies include MFT for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, parent groups, ABFT and RO-DBT.

How to refer
Health practitioners can refer their patients by completing our online referral form or by calling 0203 228 2545 during office hours. Young people must be under the age of 18, and be registered to a GP in one of the following boroughs: Bexley, Bromley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham or Southwark.
The clinic also accepts private outpatient referrals and provides second opinions for young people both in and out of the UK. Our private patients come to us mainly for brief, targeted treatments, and receive the same exemplary standards of care as those who are referred through the NHS. Funding must be in place before these services can be offered.
